Vismaya presents “Hand Over Fist”- Explorations on Masculinities”In this show, live sound, text, action, song and video come together to draw out, lay bare and reflect on the many facets of masculinities. The many ways these lie embedded in our sense of identity, relationships, work and attitudes. Contemporary theatre artist Maya Krishna Rao has created a series of episodes that have grown out of improvisations with multiple-media artists Ashim Ghosh and Amitesh Grover. Episodes, some funny, some introspective, some disturbing and some pointing to the often unspoken and unexpressed…

Making this show has not been easy. The principal performer is a woman. She has needed to shift her own sense of herself in order to connect with the theme in a way that is enriching. As for the team, it has taken a lot of looking in–talking out–taking in-looking out. There are so many cross-cutting strands and currents at work in the way masculinities play out in life. It’s not always tangible, its expression changing continually. And yet we have had to grapple with it, grasp it, start looking at it. Reflectively and purposefully.
These short episodes are an attempt to pick up only some of the strands that constitute the larger maze of masculinities.
This show was commissioned by the UNDP, UNFPA and UNIFEM as part of a programme to prevent gender based violence.

Asmita’s “Final Solutions" has a powerful contemporary resonance as it addresses the issue of communalism. The play presents different shades of the communalist attitude prevalent among Hindus and Muslims in its attempt to underline the stereotypes and clichés influencing the collective sensibility of one community against another. The play moves from the partition to the present day communal riots. It probes into the religious bigotry by examining the attitudes of three generations of a middle-class Gujrati business family, in one dramatic night of interactions, the eventually points to tolerance and forgetfulness as the only possible solution of the crisis

Mahesh Dattani's, “Final Solutions”, with music by Sangeeta Gaur, translated by Shahid Anwar and directed By Arvind Gaur.

“Of God & Country” is based on the essay 'Why I am an Atheist’ that the well known Indian freedom fighter Bhagat Singh wrote before he was hanged. Set in a jail in pre-independence India the play is a conversation between martyr Bhagat Singh and his British guard who wonders why a man who is about to be hanged shortly doesn't believe in God.

The play's been written by Deepak Josh, and directed by Cambridge graduate and theatre actor/director Ashish Sen. It is performed by Pathy Aiyar who has more than 15 years and 30 plays under his belt.
